The Public Works Department invites applications for the following position:

Architectural Technologist II

The post holder will assist the Architects in the production of project documentation/technical drawings.

As part of a project team the post holder will:

  • Undertake measured and photographic surveys of the project site, to ascertain both the existing conditions and conditions needed for future development;
  • Record and document survey information;
  • Receive, review and understand initial/schematic designs provided by the Architects, following liaison with the Quantity Surveyor and other relevant project consultants;
  • Provide technical advice/support to the Architect and Consultant Specialists in the timely production of detailed development design documents for construction projects;
  • Produce highly detailed construction documents on behalf of the Architects applying traditional drafting best practice and Computer Aided Design (CAD);
  • Assist in the preparation of architectural information documents for the tendering process, to facilitate tendering decisions. To include the provision of the detailed drawings/plans and specifications developed by the post holder;
  • Observe the work on site alongside the Architectural Technologist and during the construction process to keep up to date with building techniques and systems and assist in recording construction as built drawings.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills - The successful applicant should possess a Certificate or formal training in Architecture, Technology or Construction Technology from a recognized/accredited institution; OR Have a knowledge of constructional techniques, draughting techniques and building methodologies/codes and 5-7 years of relevant experience. The post holder should have an understanding of constructional techniques and building methodology/detail. The post holder should have experience with making planning and building permit applications. Ability to master computer aided design systems will be necessary in addition to traditional draughting skills; also the ability to produce 3D renderings in a recent or current CAD version. He/she must have good communications skills both orally and in writing and have a valid driverís licence.
